Raw Leather Import Tax Leather Industry Crisis

On the one hand, the leather industry is short of raw materials. On the other hand, livestock exports and smuggling are increasing. Although the government has repeatedly emphasized the fight against livestock smuggling, there has been no action so far, and livestock breeding has dropped to an alarming level.

 recently, the Australian Competition and Consumer Council (ACCC) conducted a spot check on 22 kinds of harmful aromatic amines in garments, textiles and leather products. ACCC intends to consider limiting aromatic amines. The Federal Minister responsible for consumer protection has agreed with ACCC to work out a solution. ACCC will make an additional cost assessment in advance, then proceed with the development of restrictive measures and inform the WTO Secretariat.
