French luxury goods company Chanel (Chanel) has acquired a minority stake in Evolved by Nature, a green chemical company, with no specific trading volume announced.

Evolved by Nature was founded in 2013 by chemist Gregory Altman and biomedical engineer Rebecca Lacouture. Its signature product is liquid silk called Activated Silk.

Activated Silk is made from environmentally-friendly renewable technology and uses disused silkworm chrysalis as raw material.

When Activated Silk is dissolved in water, it can be matched with various fabrics to enhance the fabric's performance in all aspects.

Activated Silk can replace a large number of synthetic products used in traditional production processes, thereby reducing environmental pollution.

Activated Silk can also be configured into various modules to meet different needs in different industries. It has been applied to many fields such as personal care, clothing and medicine.

Since 2014, the company has applied for more than 10 patents related to liquid silk.

Evolved by Nature said that the investment will be utilized to explore more innovative materials, technologies and ways to enhance fabric performance.

How Chanel will use Evolved by Nature technology is still unknown.

According to Greg Altman, chief executive officer of Evolved by Nature, their cooperation with Chanel is still focused on R & D stage.

Chanel said in a statement: "this cooperation will give Chanel the opportunity to explore more innovative materials. This is part of our investment strategy in green technology and is consistent with our goal of creating excellent, high-quality fabrics."

In addition to Chanel, the existing shareholders of Evolved by Nature also include Kraft Group, Jeff Vinik and Roy P. Disney, but they did not disclose the total financing of the company.

Altman also revealed that they are discussing potential partnerships with many other luxury brands: "companies in every industry are interested in our technology."

Chanel announced in December last year that it would discontinue all kinds of exotic skins, including crocodile skin, lizard skin, snake skin and skate skin.
